JOINT CLUB TRIP

MINERALOGICAL SOCIETY OF ARIZONA

DAISY MOUNTAIN ROCK & MINERAL CLUB

  FIELD TRIP

ROWLEY MINE

Saturday, March 18, 2023

Ed Davis, a good friend of the MSA and Rockhounds in general invited MSA to collect at the Rowley Mine.  This is a joint club trip for members of MSA and Daisy Mountain and is a replacement for the Peridot Mesa field trip, which, unfortunately had to be cancelled due to changes in the reservation policies. (Maybe next year.)

MEET TIME: 9:00 AM, Saturday, March 18, 2023 (meeting location near GILA BEND, AZ and trip details will be sent via email AFTER Registration)

END TIME:  3:00PM or when ready to depart.

TRIP DETAILS:

  • Day trip.
  • Wear Club Name Badges
  • Limit (20) MSA and (20) Daisy Mountain Members for (40) member total
  • Register ASAP as First Come-First Serve.
  • No one will be allowed to go underground.
  • Surface & Dump Collecting Only.
  • *** No Carpooling being arranged ***
  • Pets are ok but must be kept nearby. Mine has domesticated foxes onsite and they don’t want to see them hurt.

LIMITED TRIP: (20) MSA and (20) Daisy Mountain for (40) total limit

FEE's (Cash Only):

  • $25/person.
  • Kids under 18 years are free.

TRAVEL NOTE: Please allow at least 1/2 hour more time than normal to get to the meeting spot. The delays were not noted on the state of Arizona highway condition website.

VEHICLE:  Most any car can make it to Rowley.  Mid-Clearance recommended.

RECOMMENDED TOOLS & ITEMS:  Hand-rake, pick, mattock, and/or shovel for serious diggers, rock hammer, collecting container/bucket.

SAFETY:  Safety glasses, gloves, long pants, long sleeve shirts, sturdy shoes or boots and normal day hike items.  Sunscreen, hat, extra water, lunch items, camp chair.

MATERIAL:  Surface finds are becoming harder and harder to find. For the most part you will find chrysocolla, mostly skins but some cutting material, mimetite, barite and mediocre wulfenite and galena are typical as well.  Ed will try to make sure there is plenty of material on the dump.  Miners will most likely have material for sale.  Bring extra cash.

RSVP REQUIRED: By Friday, March 17, 2023 @ 6:00 PM.

FIELD TRIP LEADER: Bill Freese 602-568-6843 or bfreese77@cox.net.
